I'm just posting to sympathize with your dilemma. I think they are both great horns and had a very difficult time choosing between the two. I ultimately got a PT-15 at least in part because I got a great deal on it. I feel that the PT-15 has more depth to the sound while still retaining a reasonable amount of 'F tuba' character. I think this makes it a slightly better quintet horn(which is what I needed to compliment my PT-6) than the 45S which I think of as being somewhat lighter.. especially in the low register. These are very subjective observations, that are subject to change at a moments notice, and I'm really slicing hairs here. In an ideal world I would have a smaller lighter sounding F tuba that I could really zing for solo work but I've got to pay this one off first. I'm not sure what you mean by openness.. could you elaborate? Perhaps you have such a great model to emulate playing the 45S that something switches mentally when you pick it up?

I'm eagerly awaiting what others have to say on this topic.

just my two cents,
