Gary,

I am so glad that you mentioned the Jarvi/SNO Shostakovich cycle. To me Jarvi's recordings with that orchestra were just great. I have talked with others who don't agree. One guy even thought I was joking. I have a majority of the Shostakovich stuff with Jarvi and just recently the other day picked up the 9th Symphony with the tuba trombone fanfare. This is one of the few times that I could tell that the tuba player was blowing and he does a nice job. I think people really ought to give them a close listen. The principal trumpet player is amazing. If you don't already have it, check out the Jarvi/SNO Ein Heldenleben. It is the closest thing to the Reiner/CSO recording I have found.
