i have played the tuba 12 years now, and I have a degree in it. I have a performance degree, pursued it with the intent of furthering my study. I have very diverse interests, but the tuba is number one. I even tried changing my major when I was back in college to see if I could successfully pursue any of my other interests. Sure, I could have made a lot of money in another field, but, no, it isn't about that. Money is not the source of happiness for me. If I can support myself on a meager performer's income, that's fine. I dabble in some other realms of music as well. The point is, I was once burnt out, but have experienced enough to know that I am where I belong now. I am only concerned with supporting myself. Maybe someday I'll have a family, but that is not my concern at the moment, so I don't care if I'm broke. I love my tuba, and am glad I found my way back to it. It's a struggle to do the necessary tasks to help myself improve, but it's worth it.
