I would say that it would be important to be able to do it both ways. When I played it with my college orchestra, I single toungued. But a director, or someone behind the screen, might want it played faster than you might be capable with a single toungue. I had an experience at an audition. I was playing the fast low stuff in the middle of Mahler 5's third movement. I played it, they asked me to play it faster, and cleaner, and I played it again exactly the same. Needless to say I didn't advance. Gotta be flexible.
