The value of a qualified private teacher cannot be underestimated, particularly for a relative beginner. It may cost you some $$$$, but you'll benefit greatly from the one-on-one instruction. A good tuba teacher will provide you with motivation/incentive to progress quickly with formation of solid playing habits. With this tutelage, along with some dedicated practice, you'll be playing tuba in all-state sooner than you think! Good luck, Alex.
