As a former clarinetist that came to their senses, this can be one of best changes of your life. Clarinet was ok, but tuba is FUN! 1st off, listen to recordings of great tuba players, and try to imitate their sound (hint-get a good mouthpiece buzz and use your air). Good exercize- read Johannes Rochut trombone exercizes down 1 8ve. 2nd keep your reading level up. Your clarinet band parts were alot harder than than your tuba parts will be. Once you get your fingerings down, practice technique and sightreading so that you keep your learned reading skills sharp. (kopprasch is good) 3rd, take lessons with a good teacher. This will help keep you in the practice room, and should keep you from learning bad habits. Finally, remember that every professional tuba player was once a beginner. Good luck! M.T.
