Tuba in all but Sym no 1. The best parts, that is most challenging, involving, and thematic are 2, 4, and 5. Each of these symphonies contain etude-like passages of extended length (like other instruments in the orchestra - a novel concept) that require - no -- invite real woodshedding. The parts in 3 and 6 don't rise to quite this level, but the 6th concludes with a wild-ass solo, not incredibly difficult, musically bizarre.

In inspirational terms, I don't think Nielsen achieves quite the level of some of the other tuba friendly composers, but you have to really like a composer who knew how to write clearly, honestly, professionally in a way that just SOUNDS good, and invloves ALL the instruments of the orchestra.

The performing materials are in the public domain, and are published by Kalmus. I bought the part to no. 2. It IS an etude.
