About 5-7 years ago I remember attending a masterclass held by Dan Sipes. He had mentioned the same thing happening when he was younger while practicing on a Besson BBb tuba. He said his left eye was something like 20/30 but his right eye was now 20/100! I don't know if this helps but it sounds like a similar situation. From my experince, I know that I personally like the "york" style leadpipe that doesnt quite wrap arond the bell which helps keep it better out of sight.
