Pam cooking spray is little more than vegetable oil thinned with alcohol, plus a propellant. Vegetable oil tends to turn into varnish over time, spending a significant portion of that time being very sticky and difficult to remove. I would suggest that you clean that vegetable oil off your old pistons and out of the casings as soon as possible, before it polymerizes and becomes a horrible, sticking mess, that my require paint remover to remove.
