After any cutting operation, you have to carefully debur and (slightly) chamfer the edge of the opening. I did this on the Yamaha with a tiny, very fine jeweller's flat file. Then, of course, the *thorough* cleaning of the valve to make sure every bit of grinding byproduct is washed away. The Yamaha valves worked as well as before (I did this before we lapped the valves in--which seems to be a congenital requirement with Yamahas).

I've thought of using the round grinding stones. They would be safer than a drill bit. But they can still bounce around when grinding the inside of a full circle, and the grinding is inefficient right at the very tip.
