I would tend to disagree, especially with regard to venting. Good trumpets always have triggers on the first and third valves, but no one would say that they indicate that the horn doesn't play in tune; rather, they acknowledge that there is a limitation to the ability of an instrument to play in tune when multiple valves are pressed, and that triggers are a solution to overcome that limitation. So why NOT triggers on a tuba? I think venting the valves is the same, except the novice would never even notice venting. Anyone who would notice that the valves are vented would also understand why it is necessary.
