You're right--in some ways mouthpiece work is harder that the "real thing" so it's very beneficial. But in other aspects
it spoils you! For example, lip slurs are a piece of cake with a mouthpiece and can utterly delude you into thinking you
can then do the same or similar thing on a horn. But I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Another advantage
is that you can practice on difficult things like double and triple tonguing and lip trills without disturbing the neighbors. Marc
