Hehe, my story is a little different... I heard my first wind band in 5th grade and fell in love with the flute (instrument, not players, unlike most of you said in that Flute/Tuba marriage thread). I wanted to play that, but the school didn't have an extra, and I couldn't afford my own. So they handed me a clarinet.
I played the clarinet for about 4 weeks, and the person who owned the clarinet had moved... and they came back for it.
I had no choice but to play tuba, since that's the only instrument they had that I didn't have to buy. I was a natural!! Little did I know that it was the COSTLIEST instrument, and 6 years later that's biting me in the butt since I can't find one that I can afford!! =^)
