When it was at the end of my 5th grade year in elementary school, the band director from the middle school came over and brought over some instruments. He did that so he would have people sign up for band the next year at middle school. I did, and I played percussion in the 6th grade. My second year, I decided that I wanted to play something that actually had a tone to it. I liked the trombone sound, so I played it. That same year he asked anyone who would like to play tuba, and a fellow trombone player switched to the tuba/sousaphone. After just a couple of weeks, I was impressed by the depth and power of tone, so I wanted to switch. I finally switched to tuba after the Christmas concert, halfway through my 7th grade year. I have been playing tuba for over 7.5 years now.
