I had two older sisters that played instruments in the band so when I hit 5th grade and wanted to play my mom couldn't resist me. Unfortunately for me, both of my sisters had stopped playing by the time I started so I couldn't get a new instruments. So my mom got an old trumpet from one of her friends which I started on. When I was in 8th grade my teacher told me that she really needed a tuba player and she wanted me to try. So I took the challenge and loved playing the tuba. During high school I taught myself baritone and trombone, both against my teachers advice.
