I didn't include a 52J/56J on my list because I haven't played one yet. I've only played one MW 2145 and I didn't particularly care for that one, it felt a little small and stuffy to me. I had to include the 186, even though I'm not overly crazy about that tuba. It is just a classic 4/4 tuba which has survived many years in its current configuration and works great for those who care for that type of sound. I agree that the 188 is a little larger, somewhere in between the 4/4 and 5/4 designations. Also, I've had bad luck with the 188's I've tried, they've all been dogs. I tried to pick tubas that had a very wide range of application, one of my personal criteria for a 4/4 tuba.

My opinion for what it's worth...
