I started playing the baritone in 4th grade and played that until my 6th grade band director told me that he needed a tuba in the band and somehow talked me into it. I must say that was the best decision I have ever made. I am currently a senior in high school and still playing better than ever. I've liked playing the tuba so much that I decided to make it my career. You also have to think. There are millions of flutes, clarinets, saxophones, and trumpets in bands throughout the world. There isn't usually more than two or three tubas in a band. You get to make more of a difference by yourself than one of those million flute players could. Also there wasn't much fighting over chair placements because there wasn't usually enough chairs to have a ranking system. And to think someday you could be the sole tuba player in a huge orchestra. Now that's something to think about!

P.S. If you went to a school that had as many tubas as flutes, YOU ARE LUCKY!
