As Jay accurately mentioned, berlioz did not intend for his music to be played by the contrabass tuba. The light nature, and overall tessitura of this particular excerpt suggests that it would be best suited to a bass tuba. You play the 621F, right? What CC do you play? Your teacher's argument may lie in the fact that a 621 sounds much like a "beefed up" Euphonium. He may want more "color" to the sound, which isn't present in yamaha horns. A general word of advice would be to select which horn YOU feel that it sounds best on, through recordings, and such, then run it by other people live. There are times when I may get opinions from highly respected professionals, that another professional may disagree with. Bottom line... play what it sounds best on.
