Klaus described the benefits of the uniball and ball/socket types of linkage
used by Mirafone starting in the late 70's / early 80's. Not all horns got
the goods back then, but they all do now. Plan on 3-400 bucks for Mirafone parts
to convert if you are thinking about getting an older horn with s-links and want
to preclude the typewriter noise effects. You can spend less on model airplane stuff
to replace, but for my money the extra coin makes for a very nice touch in bringing
your horn up-to-snuff.

f.w.i.w. the wear on s-links at the rotor end can be minimized by peening
the hole that the rotor screw fits through. I have also seen them drilled
and an oilite or bronzite bush press-fitted into the end of the s-link,
when combined with a new and teflon-impregnated shoulder screw, no more noize!
