Get good on what ya got. Simple. If you play better than the next guy, does it really matter if you did it on BBb or CC? How many people in the audience will really know if you are playing a BBb tuba or a CC tuba. For that matter, how many people on the audition committee will know if you are playing CC or BBb? When it really comes down to it, the difference between a CC tuba and a BBb tuba is fingerings. So,if you play better, who cares if you are playing your Bb's open (as on BBb tuba) or if you are playing them 1st valve (as on CC tuba). It's the same note on both instruments! It should sound the same. We make a really big deal out of this here. Its not that big of a deal. Players like James Jenkins, Ross Tolbert, and Everett Gilmore seemed to do just fine on BBb. You can say they came from a "different era" or whatever you will, but the truth of the matter is that they won their auditions because they were better. Nobody was checking to see if they played a CC tuba. They were too busy looking for the best player. Yes, I realize that most professionals play on CC tubas, but I would bet that if you gave them a BBb tuba they would play just as well.
