My "old" Miraphone 186 BBb had the S linkages and I assume the 16.5 inch bell. It looks like all of the current models of 186, as well as the MW 25 and some other horns have a bell diameter of 17.75 inches. The bore size remains unchanged.
Since I no longer have my old horn, I can't do a side-by-side comparrison. Should I expect the sound differences to be the "expected" differences -- the slightly larger bell has a little broader sound, and the "old", smaller bell has a slightly more focused sound?
(Curious to know if the slightly smaller bell would provide a little brighter sound that might be preferred in a quintet over the larger bell . . . .)
