Mark,
If you can get a guide out without destroying it or the valve, either take it to a good hardware store and check it with a threaded plate (I assume you want to try English (SAE) threads, first (they wouldn't use Whitworth threads, would they?)), or buy such a plate for $10-15, follow the instructions that come with it, and determine which thread the guide screws into easily, without forcing. Buy some nylon screws with the appropriate thread (perhaps at a model airplane type hobby shop) and file the screw head until it fits the slot (be sure to do your filing with the guide off the valve!).

Alternatively, you could take the valve into a hobby shop and try nylon screws until you find something that will fit, and taking advantage of the fact that, for the small number of threads engaged, the soft plastic may allow an imperfect match of threads to work well enough. If you don't want to take your valve in, buy an assortment of thread sizes and try them at home.
