New Tuba Care

I finally broke down and bought my own tuba (the cost was always a factor, I always had something else with more priority, ie driveway, plumbing, etc.).

It's a Silver Besson 794, with a hard case. It has a dent in one of the pipes, so I got it at discount. I have to point the dent out to people, so I'm not sure if I'm even going to get it taken out at this point.

Questions:
1) Do I need to do anything special while breaking in the valves. They're a bit stiff, but I expect that to change with time and practice.
2) There are some fingerprints and dust on the horn. How often should I polish it, and what do you use just to wipe down a silver horn?

I know that it's not a pro horn, but it's mine and I'd like to take good care of it. Thanks for any suggestions.

Brad
