You know this is the amazing thing; he doesn't owe anyone anything, but I've never heard anything but kind words about him.

The first thing he's pointed out to me is that because the fourth valve equals the first plus the third valve, I should use the fourth valve instead to keep the intonation steady. Although I groaned at this, I have begun practicing with this in mind. It's tough but rewarding to break old habits.

Oh, and regarding the horn: the one I posted isn't actually mine, but one very similar to it that I found when I did a Google search. It's older than mine, and has an adapter on the tuning slide to convert it to low pitch; mine doesn't have the adapter. Mine was also recently overhauled by Chuck McAlexander of the Brass Lab in New York City; he did an amazing job.

Also, the 13th was my birthday; pretty great gift, if you ask me.
