In light of your statements, it brings up a question I've always had. Considering the mechanics we're discussing, how does the old Conn off-center piston design keep from suffering premature wear on the valves? I've never owned one of these tubas so I can't comment on the realities of the valve design but it seemed to be a pretty popular design in its day and I've always wondered why more manufacturers didn't use that setup. That design is certainly more ergonomically friendly and if the mechanical aspects to the valve function can be dealt with, I would think this would be the best comfort for a piston valve tuba player. Thoughts?
