When you say "brassy" I think I know what you mean. But, I have to ask if the student is overblowing the horn? Is it the student or is it the horn?
When I had a Miraphone 186, there was a fairly easy to reach limit on the amount of volume you could put on that horn. Just about the only complaint I had about that horn though.
