This does work; way back when, in high school, we had 8 tubas resting on an apparatus such as this. They were carpeted dows; 1-2" wooden rods from Lowe's or something, with the King convertibles resting on them. While this was more convenient than pulling them out of the hard case everyday, the bells on EVERY horn eventually bowed due to the stress and weight of the horn. Now, these were cheap horns, but I would venture to say that this was not a unique occurence!
