I was once called to sub for an orchestra concert and found a piece on the program, written by a second violinist, from Jewish themes he had kept in his head while in the internment camps. He wroked them, in his head until, many years later, he was able to write them down and then arrange them and get the orchestra to agree to play them on a concert. We played this concert in a Synagogue, had a full house and almost complete melt down of audience and orchestra at the emotions released by this piece. It is as close to an emotional collapse as anything I have ever had while playing but the beauty of the music sustained the need to get it played, well, for Abe, who was playing second violin that day.
