I think you hit the nail right on the head with your points. Marcus Hotzel did once tell me, however, that he hoped that the "German F" continued getting a bad shake so that their prices might come down. Never-the-less, he and guys like Jens Bjorn-Larson sound brilliant on their F tubas. Is it because they took the time to figure out how to manipulate these instruments, or is it because they never approached playing bass tuba with a contra bass tuba rate of air flow in the first place? Either way they sound great in every register.
