I practice with the TV on. If I concentrate solely on my playing, I tend to "push it" too far and do things like use too much pressure, because I try to get things to "go" faster than I'm really able to. If I have the distraction going, I'm more relaxed with my practicing and actually do a better job. This will sound nuts to those of you who don't have the "pushing it" problem.
