Note:
The studio tuba teacher would not have to teach all of the doubles, the student would take secondary applied lessons from the respective teachers. Also, I sais a "not-embarass-yourself" level on the other instruments. The virtuoso type training can still be applied to the tuba. What I mean by not embarass yourself is being able to competently read and perform run-of-the-mill music on these instruments. Also, on the cylindrical bore stuff, ask Tommy Johnson, Don Waldrop and Jim Self if the Bass Trombone is a viable double, they will say yes. Also, this exposure could help a potential player to be prepared for the cimbasso experience. This is for undergrad students in performance, many if not all performance guys/gals usually go on to a graduate program. There they can specialize all they want. However, they will have real world tools and knowledge for a diverse amount of applications.
