Well, I voted against the name change, and, as others have noted, the name changed without the results being posted. I let my membership expire. I enjoyed TUBA and the TUBA Journal, but not enough to pander to political correctness and pseudo-professionalism. (I mean mere PC would have made it TUBAS -- Tubists Universal Brotherhood And Sodality (or Sisterhood). If swilling in McSorely's with a group with a funny name was good enough for Bill Bell, who are we to become "respectable" and take ourselves too seriously?

Some of my most fond childhood memories of tuba playing were Christmas barhops with the local Little Gnomes Chowder and Marching Society -- raising thousands (in the '50s!) for charity, hoisting a few beers and playing increasingly less-recognizable tunes from pub to pub until we couldn't stagger and play any more .... I can't hear McNamara's Band without thinking of those times .....
