of course, a good football program doesn't guarantee you a good band program. The bands at Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio St. are all really good, while their teams are up and down.
Washington usually has a strong team but i've heard their band described as "the worst major college marching band", unfortunately.
Stanford and Virginia have those "informal" or student-run bands which are alternately lots of fun and stupid.
