Hi Richie,

My first first thought was "how is your 186 limiting your playing now?"

The answer to this can help you get clear on what (if any) tuba you purchase.

Is your purchase to be a second-horn? What I mean is,
if you can afford to keep two tubas,
try to make your second purchase more specific to what areas you
feel limited in hardware-wise.

If you cannot afford to keep two horns, then why exactly are you looking for a replacement for your 186? (this goes back to the limitations question)
The 186 is a very flexible, all-around instrument and when compared to the three alternatives you mentioned (except maybe the 188) it is probably the most ideally-suited for what you are doing now, as a single-horn owner. If you feel you HAVE to have a little bigger sound, or that you HAVE to be more fluid in solo stuff, it's likely you will get far more bang-for-your-buck out of serious dedication to your lessons.

--just some thoughts,
