I know that Holton offered it as an option. They actually had 3 levels of gold plating listed in the 1924 catalog that I have. The cost for their "Deluxe" finish, which was the most expensive, was about triple the cost of basic brass, and about double the cost of silver plate. For example their "Mammoth BBb upright Bass" was $240 in brass, $375 in silver plate, and $740 in "Deluxe" burnished gold. I couldn't tell you how many of these were sold vs. their regular production run. It is shown as a finish option on all of their instruments though.

I have seen gold plated Buescher Saxs from that era, but the ones that I have seen were in a satin finish. I don't know if they offered burnished or if it was available on their brass instruments.
