For me the difference between the MW 25 and the Miriphone 186 (given good quality samples)is what you like. I happen to like the MW a bit more. Both are in my opinion extremely worthy tubas that excell as general purpose tubas (I think that these tubas are equals). Try both and see which one you like better (or another brand). Also, look at the used tuba market from places like Baltimore Brass Company and Dillon Music. Finally, if you are studying tuba or plan to study tuba talk to your teacher.

My opinions:
The workmanship in the MW 25 is excellent, have an excellent sound (fairly dark), plays easily, good intonation and it can fill any tuba role. Furthermore, the MW 32 (one of the CC versions of the MW 25) is one of my favorite tubas.

I do not think that you can go wrong with a good Miraphone 186. Miraphone tubas also have excellent workmanship, different but excellent sound (a bit brighter), good intonation, plays easily and can fill any tuba role. I like the Miraphone 186 very much.

good luck,
