Trombones are quite inexpensive relative to tubas and euphoniums. You should be able to purchase a new, in the box, Bach 42B open wrap for around $1500. We bought one for my son a couple of years ago and paid even less than that which you can do if you're not in a hurry. Be careful of auction 'bones; the slides are the key and you can't tell unless it's in your hands.
