I double on Tuba and euph and occasionally masquerade as a trombone player. For my money, the best trombone ever made was the circa 1950's King Liberty 2-B. Some may consider it to be a peashooter, but it has a big sound and is responsive in the low range without getting blatty. I've used mine to play 3rd in the municipal band and it works fine for that with a 6-1/2 AL mouthpiece. Plus you can pop a 7C on it and hit those high A's, Bb's and C's just about all day long.

If you know somebody who knows somebody who has one, you might pick one up for $400.
