Except for a few large old rusty cities, unions (as people migrate to right-to-work states) are quickly becoming less significant and less influential. If, however, most of your income is tied in with union membership, perhaps you should show consideration to it.
A union can supply negotiators to try and recover unpaid salaries, settle disputes, etc...Of course, union members pay dearly for the availability of these services. Otherwise, enjoy your freedom as a U.S. citizen to do well enough to be hired and paid by others who also do well.
