That depends upon the person and circumstances. If you want an old 3-piston BBb to play in a community band and you have plenty of disposable income, then it may be worth it to you. To me, the instrument is worth about $250 if it is a small one, and up to $400 if it is a larger York. If I were to put $2,000 to $3,000 into restoring it as it is now, I seriously doubt that it would bring that kind of price in my lifetime. On the other hand, if I buy it for $400 and put about $5,000 into making it a fine 5-valve CC tuba, then I MIGHT make a profit, but again, no guarantees. I prefer to make a reasonable profit in my work, like everyone else.
