You're right (of course). Mr. Fedderly of Baltimore Brass informed me yesterday that they were two different models. "Das Hitlertuba" is the 197 or 198, also known as the Walter Hilgers model BBb, which is the one I played in Frankfurt. It has very little bell flare at all, and a very intense, dark sound that is unique to this instrument.
I imagine the Fafner is a fine instrument, too, as Melton (Meinl-Weston) has neve been known for putting out 2nd class instruments.
