I met a trumpet player whose family owned an apartment building in Chicago. The elevators in the building were making a noise which could not be located (don't jump ahead) but the elevator operators all said they heard no noise. Repairmen came out numerous times.

My trumpet playing friend became a music major and in college recognized the buzzing of trombone players as the noise he had heard in the elevators as a kid.

When he told his parents, they looked at the old employment lists to see who might have been the culprit. The answer? A young man named Jay Friedman, later employed in the CSO.

I told the story to a friend of Jay's twenty years after the fact. When he gave Jay the story, he fell out laughing. He remembered practicing in the elevator but didn't know it was him they were looking for.

Buzzing must work.
