It's really too bad that Souzies are frowned upon by so many of our brethren.
Last summer I did a "blind sound test" with my wife (a good musician in her own right as a pianist) to see which horn sounded the best. Contestants were a Miraphone 4-valve BBb (sorry, don't know model #, borrowed from a friend), my Cousenon BBb (rescued from the ash heap of history) and my '52 King Silver Souzie.

The King won out. When I relayed this story to fellow tubists, who owned expensive CC uprights, they were in total shock. As a face-saving measure they all finally responded with "Well...it's probably all a matter of personal preference...."

And perhaps it is. I really believe that every tuba player out there has a horn on which he (or she...to be PC) sounds best. And that horn may not necessarily be the CC that costs as much as a small car.
