Set your mind at ease. It may be that the majority of customers at music stores, even well known pro shops such as Dillon's, are amateurs and avocational players. Not every trumpet player who comes in to try an instrument or pick up a repair is going to wail like Herseth, and not every tuba player is going to blow your socks off like Pokorny. I have run into Scott Mendocker, Herb Wekselblatt, and Morris Kainuma at Dillon's. In Scott's case on one occasion, he was playing in the next room, and not knowing it was him, I asked Matt, "Who's that? He's not bad." All very humbling, but don't let it be intimidating.

Matt, in addition to being a great repairman and custom designer, is a great salesman by instinct and inclination. And he's patient to a fault. So he will work with you.
