I'd like to know some examples of these many orchestras that are loading up their programming with off-putting esoterica. My impression is that orchestras are being very cautious and sticking to well-known repertoire in order to attract audiences that are familiar with the tunes they've heard in TV commercials, and sometimes on-hold. It's not the "common peoples" fault that the culture is being coarsened and dumbed down. It's the progress of corporate power (easier to sell to a gullible population) and politicians and legislators (dumber is easier to control).

And baseball is not for the dumb. To play it well, or to follow it well as a spectator requires sufficient intellignence to learn the rules, and a broad attention span. Kind of like classical music
