I was in a music shop in London last year and asked a similar question.
The fellow I was talking to said Besson made, or used to make, a BBb about the same size as the 981/982 Eb which was a compensator and was designed primarily for horse-mounted
playing by military bands. Perhaps someone in England or elsewhere has some info.

I also recall that in his euphonium primer, Harold Brasch was pictured holding a small Besson BBb that he identified as a compensating tuba.
