Alonzo (Lon) Leach was a well-known musician in the Des Moines, IA area. Around World War I, he played in Sousa's band, and after that, came back to Des Moines and opened a music store that continues to this day as "Family Music Center" on the metro's south side. A lot of music stores had instruments made by outfits such as Lyon and Healy, and had their store name put on them. When I worked at another Des Moines music store founded by a former employee of Lon's, we had some Leach horns in the warehouse.

I played in Karl King's band when I was a kid, and Lon Leach would come up every summer and conduct a tune or two, even after Mr. King's death. He and Mr. King had co - founded the Iowa Bandmaster's Association, and Lon was the Secretary - Treasurer for many years through the 1940's and 50's.
