It is a fairly small horn that would be well suited to quintets and CC solo work (whatever that is). I suspect that fans of the older Conn 2J and 3J would like this instrument.

I personally didn't like the instrument that I tried because I tend to not like small bore instruments. For my taste, I would prefer a Mirafone 186, Meinl Weston 2145, or B&S PT 3 to fit the small CC niche. There are many very good players who like the small bore American style instruments (like the Holton). I'm just not one of 'em.

The Holton seems like a quality instrument, if you're into that sort of sound. Intonation seemed ok. Freeblowing is such an interpretive thing that opinions are nearly useless. However, to me it seemed stuffy. But to clarify, many think Mirafone 186s are stuffy while I find them freeblowing.

Hope this helps. Keep in mind that we all have our own tastes and opinions on instruments.
