That's funny because freelancer in LA that I know, Chuck Koontz, just bought an old MW2155 rotary and it's an amazing horn. He and I agreed that we prefer it over the well-known HB-6. It has this huge and dark sound and at the same time it's very easy to play. Low G range below the clef just pops out like on a piston tuba, yet it has a rotary tuba sound. I would definitely consider that horn if another is lying around, but after reading your post, I would try to be more cautious. Chuck Koontz was probably lucky to find a great one like it. Well, wouldn't call a blessing luck.
