just go play a bunch of horns. Pick the one that you can't put down, and buy it, no matter what the price is. Pick it beacause you like its sound, and its ease of playing. If you are in good playing shape when you arrive, good; if you are not, realize when you are pushing yourself too hard.
The horn that you want to keep playing is the one to buy. That is all there is to it, in my mind.
